Mark Your Calendars for two important events this week.
1. A series called
"The Fracking Boom" will begin today (May 14) on "All Things Considered" on National Public Radio stations.
See local listings for times www.npr.org
2. Tuesday, May 15, 2012, 8:00 p.m.
Shalersville Township Hall, corner of Rt. 303 and Rt. 44. Note that 303 is closed halfway between Streesboro and Rt. 44.
Residents of Shalersville
Township, Ohio, concerned about the health, safety and welfare of their community will bring a resolution before their Township
Trustees. The Resolution declares that Shalersville residents have an inalienable right to local self-governance and that
the function of government is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the community; therefore, the residents petition
and direct the Township Trustees to ban the risky industrial process of unconventional shale gas and oil extraction by advertising
and adopting the "Community Rights and Unconventional shale Gas and Oil Extraction Ban".
There are plenty of speakers, all with different aspects of the risks of drilling that they're concerned about. There
may be pro-drilling folks there as well and the Trustees want to be "fair minded" and "hear both sides".
So if you're concerned, come and make it clear which side you're on.
